Command

:echo synIDattr(synID(line("."), col("."), 1), "name")

Description

This Vim command outputs the syntax highlighting group name for the character under the cursor.

Components

  • synID: Gets the syntax ID for a given line and column.
  • synIDattr: Retrieves an attribute of a syntax ID, in this case, the “name”.

Usage

Run the command in Vim’s command-line mode to identify the syntax group of the character where the cursor is currently positioned.
